Dr. James McKiernan is a practicing chiropractor and co-owner of McKiernan Chiropractic and Sports Injury Center with his wife Dr. Donna McKiernan in Kalispell, Montana. Dr. McKiernan received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical education from Southern Connecticut State University in 1973. While at Southern, he was co-captain of both the football and track teams. He was selected to the All Conference football teams during his senior year and was a Track, College Division, and NCAA All-American. The Ottawa Roughriders drafted him in 1973. Dr. McKiernan received his primary and secondary teaching certifications and all his training was in the inner city school system of New Haven, Connecticut. After playing one season with the Atlantic Coast Football League Champions, The Hartford Knights, he injured his knee and had to have surgery. During rehabilitation he discovered the power of Sport Chiropractic Care.

That experience with chiropractic led to his enrollment in Northwestern College of Chiropractic in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1974. While at Northwestern, which he attended with his brother, Dr. Joe McKiernan, he became more aware of this professions' potential to help meet the health care needs of a community. He received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Northwestern in 1978.

He practiced in Burlingame, California for 15 years before moving to Kalispell. In 1988, McKiernan Chiropractic and Sports Injury Center was developed when Dr. McKiernan and his wife of over 30 years, Dr. Donna McKiernan, also a chiropractor, as well as a registered nurse, moved to the Flathead Valley with their 'kids', two cats and three dogs.

Over the years Dr. McKiernan has received postgraduate training in the care and treatment of sports injuries. He has completed both the Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP) course and the Sports Injury Diplomate course. He has taken numerous postgraduate training courses that specialize and focus on the needs of his patients, most recently completing training in Pain Reflex Release Technique (PRRT).

The use of PRRT, traditional chiropractic adjustments, the activator method, physiotherapeutic care, a positive mental attitude, good nutrition, and exercise are the major themes of Dr. McKiernan's approach. One of the things his patients frequently comment about and appreciate, is Dr. McKiernan's constant thirst for knowledge and implementing new approaches whenever needed to help with patient's specific conditions.

Dr. McKiernan believes in the natural recuperative strength of the body. He wants you to give your body the opportunity to heal itself without medical intervention. If medical care is what you need, you will most certainly be referred. Your best interests and good health are Dr. McKiernan's only concerns. He feels his greatest contribution to you is his experience and attitude about your health care needs. He listens, he cares, and he is interested in getting excellent results.
